Disgraceful Mess

My Mother would have my "guts for garters"..
She doesn't read my blog.
Recently, CallSmall queried, "How do you motivate to clean it all up?"
- I offered to send her photos of my own mess as a sympathetic gesture.
HA! Once more I have, indeed, put my foot in it. Perhaps airing my disgraceful hobby habits to my friends will shame me into an effort to clean up this mess?
How's that for motivation, Chris? heh

If only it were so easy. Problem is, no place to store all this stuff...in particular, the houses themselves. My basement is just too dark and depressing. I don't know how to wire for lights down there and can't if I did know how, as we are leasing this home. Hubs does contract work, or did, thank goodness, that's over with and we are where we will be for now and ever so we can buy our retirement home, blah blah...I digress. See, that's what happens when I start talking about cleaning up and organizing.
Besides, how can I resist these windows and all this natural light in this room? I guess I will have to bite the bullet and 'work' in the basement and limit myself to one basket load of goodies for set up and and photography up here in the dining room. That requires serious planning skills, self-control and good clean-up habits...none of said virtues do I possess.

Folks, this is just the dining room...you do not even want to see the dung....errr basement.
In her next post, CallSmall links us up to a wonderful (and new to me) resource...an online magazine and all around informative site about dolls houses and collectors. Dolls Houses Past & Present.  In the current issue of the magazine - an article giving us a glimpse into Chris's wonderful collection and her own solutions for storing and organizing. Even so, it is an ongoing process and mundane task and I reiterate my call for the formation of a support group. ;)

On a side note, I have discovered these:
Dolly Darling at home"Dolly Darling at home by petrova fossil :), on Flickr"

They are called "Dolly Darlings" and were manufactured by Hasbro in the 60s....squeeeee.
Does she not look as if she were MADE for this scene?
Anyone recognize those shelving units?
Instant love affair.
Roll on Mini Friends and have a great weekend.

Oh Edward, How Do I Love Thee?

Ahem, yes, me...smug...grinning like a mad beast.

I    did    it
Without the flippin' instructions. It was actually kind of fun...like a puzzle.  I stayed calm as per the instructions for the Dylan (heh). Wasn't calm when I was digging in the box and amongst the pieces trying to find the missing instructions....
Oh and by the way, the instructions for the Emerson, on Youtube as I posted yesterday, DO NOT help. The Emerson is an entirely different animal.

Here he is....Edward:

But, what is this piece?   hrrrmmm, yes, I did have one little piece that confuzzled me. Anyone know where that goes? ROFL

I didn't screw the 'hinge' to both halves of the house. Wanted to keep it modular so I could do this:

Okay, can't help myself...SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, this is the coolest, baddest, most awesome, sexiest, freaking dollhouse I have ever seen. I am beyond thrilled. I want to LIVE here, seriously...hubs is never going to hear the end of it...I want a house like this.
Heh, we'd better win that lottery, quick-like.

And then the post came bearing gifts of tiny chairs of plastic goodness, oh my...

Did I mention how much I love this house?

FACEPALM

*sigh*
Strike three...
I just opened the Edward (Brinca Dada dollhouse)...
No INSTRUCTIONS in the box.
I did find some Youtube videos for the Emerson...hoping that will help.

The Dylan and the Edward are Here!

Yippee!
I spent part of today putting the Dylan together. It's such a cool dollhouse!

This is in the instructions....made me laugh.

There were some problems...some of the pieces were split where the holes were drilled and there weren't the correct number of screws. Guess it needs some putty repairs.
And   then   this:

Why are there two holes here for the stairs?  Oh yeah and the side wall, the dark blue one...the holes were in the wrong place on the bottom...had to drill new ones....
Other than that, I am still very happy with my purchase ^__^

I had a very  s m a l  l  helper...this guy sat on the roof, sunning himself for ever so long ^_^
We made a good team. I named him "Dylan"...what else could I do?

I will be making custom furnishing for this house but for now the Classic Contemporary works.

I will start building the Edward tomorrow.
